Song Lyrics: Rescue Me -
Rain poured down as a green haired figure stood alone under a three in the dark gloom. As the wind picked up he remained unmoving as the rain splattered against his face in hard cold merciless drops. Almost like tears, the rain streaked down his face. However, he had stopped crying long ago. Crimson eyes were focused on one thing. Once a year he would come to this place. Once a year for the past 200 years he had come to this place. He stood in silence in a sigil over a crumbling headstone where even the writing was no longer legible. The city he knew when this was fresh was so very different. Now he stood overlooking the ruins of London. He closed his eyes, thinking of happier times. More lively times. He had been human once. A secret boyfriend to the man who became his lover and for several years, as close to a husband as he would ever have.
This used to be our secret
Now I'm hiding here alone
Can't help but read our names on the wall
And wash them off the stone
Highschool. They were both 16. It was a secret night between the two of them. A celebration for Charles birthday. They sat in the basement at Charles' house. Eric sat cross legged with his back against the wall. Charlie laid back against his chest with a happy smile upon his visage, his eyes half closed. Eric had his arms wrapped around Charles' shoulders, fingers tracing lightly over the fabric of his boyfriends shirt. "Did you make a birthday wish?"
"Mm hmmm." Charles answered softly, still not opening his eyes.
"What was it?" Eric canted his head slightly and shifted his position so that Charles would have to move to get comfortable again.
"Well.... uhm.... that you would be my boyfriend." Charles turned, his face reddening with a bright blush as he moved to be on his hands and knees, his hands on each sides of Eric's legs. They had been close since they met freshman year, but never open about it to anyone, not even themselves. It had always been a secret wondering and the other not wanting to be hated in case there was offense. Charles smiled awkwardly at the blush that rose to Eric's cheeks, but he let out a happy yell when Eric finally said yes.
I trusted you in every way
But not enough to make you stay
Turn around
I've lost my ground
It was the last night that Charles had seen Eric alive. Eric had returned home to see his home on fire. "Mom? Dad?! Sis?!?" He ran towards the building and shoved the door open for a sight that was forever burned into his mind. The vampires with glowing eyes killing his family. The man's eyes that locked on his own before he fled. He ran into the forest as his life was destroyed behind him. The next day he did not return to school. He did not go back to Charles. As far as the rest of the world knew, Eric had died in the fire with the rest of his family.
Come and rescue me
I'm burning, can't you see
Come and rescue me
Only you can set me free
Come and rescue me
Rescue me
Rescue me
He had become a vampire. He had lost himself to the darkness while working for Hellsing. It had been a downward spiral that he had been almost unable to pull himself out of. He created a vampire and destroyed her within a week. His reputation with Hellsing and the Council was destroyed. It was when he saw Charlie before his shop with the burgler that time once more stood still.
His life turned around with Charlie back in his life. It was a balancing point for him. However, had it come too late? It had been 8 years since they made a solomn promise to each other on Charles' 16th birthday. It was Charles 24th birthday that they would solidify private vows to each other. There was no church that would recognize their love. There was no government that would condone it. Their being together even pressed the Protestant ideals of Hellsing. It was a great debt that Eric had owed Integra Fairbrook Wingates Hellsing for letting them live their lives.
We lied when we were dreaming
Our crying was just fake
I wish you could deny it
Here and today
Charles' 40th birthday and Eric still remained by his side. It was an odd sight. Eric was just as old as Charlie but never aged. They shared a quiet evening together at a cabin overlooking a lake. Whether 24 or 40, Eric's feelings never changed for the mortal that held his heart. It was a strange bond they shared. Unbreakable by time, fate, or circumstances. In a way it was more powerful than any magical bond that could've ever have been placed on him.
My SOS on radio
The only chance to let you know
What I fear
Can you hear?
Charles was 87. Eric held him in his arms as he lay dying. The vampire was trying not to break down, and bit his lower lip when he felt a soft caress of a hand on his cheek, wiping away tears as they fell. "No.. no no no." Eric was pleading as he held Charles body against his chest. It was like holding a ragdoll in his arms, the mortal was so weak. Softly, Charles lips pressed against Eric's before he rested his cheek against Eric's
"Don't cry... remember the good times." Charles whispered in a steadily fading voice. "I love you."
Eric held back his tears as best he could until he felt Charles become limp against his body. Slowly at first keening whimpers escaped his lips as he lay Charles back on his deathbed. "I love you too." His voice trembled as he lost it and just broke down in tears, his voice screaming for Charles to come back to him. He could hope, pray, and it would all be fruitless.
Come and rescue me
I'm burning, can't you see
Come and rescue me
Only you can set me free
Come and rescue me
Rescue me
You and me
You and me
You and me
He was one of the pole bearers for the funeral. The others were his close friends and family. No one really knew who he was or why he had the lead corner. After all, for the older man to have such a young friend, they only assumed that Eric was a nurse or caretaker that had befriended the old man. After a certain age they had hid their relationship from the public. It was a glorious funeral. Many loving people were there and Eric would slowly just fade away from them after leaving the ring he had worn for years on his lovers coffin.
The walls are coming closer
My senses fade away
I'm haunted by your shadow
I reach to feel your face
You're not here
Are you here?
After the funeral he had not returned to Hellsing. He had not returned to his friends. He went off on his own to drown his sorrow in alcohol and blood. It was late at night that he would return to the cemetary alone, a bottle of jack in his left hand as he stumbled along. He had more alcohol in his system than he ever had in his life. He was chasing shadows in his inebriated state. A movement out of the corner of his eye made him believe for a moment that Charles was there, young, vibrant, and full of life. "Charles..." He would reach out for the figure that just turned out to be the shadow of one of the trees as he collapsed into the loose dirt. The bottle fell free of his hand to roll down the hill and shatter against a random gravestone.
Come and rescue me
Rescue me
Come and rescue me
I'm burning, can't you see
Come and rescue me
Only you can set me free
Come and rescue me
He felt someone lift him up, He barely opened his eyes as he looked up at a blurry figure. It didnt click that it was Alucard carrying him back to Hellsing on orders before someone ran across him. There was no choice if Eric could not control himself. For the next 50 years, Eric would not see the light of day. For that night, in effect, he had died with Charles. Alucard had set him down in the dark gloom of the room he was imprisoned in as a feeble figure moved down into the room with them. A lithe woman who walked with a cane. He barely heard her words, a voice as smooth as when she was younger. She issued an apology before he saw the flash of metal and smiled as a welcoming darkness covered him.
Rescue me
You and me
You and me
Rescue me
You and me
Set me free
It would be Integra's heir to free Eric during the midst of a battle. He was more stern than his mother had been. He demanded Eric's loyalty or he would die where he had awoke. Eric looked up at the man, like before he had no reason to either be loyal or to disobey. At least demanded loyalty gave him something to focus on. He accepted. He would be set free of his confines to immediately deployed with soldiers. For the rest of Hellsing's existence he would devote himself to serve them.
Rescue me
There had been others in his life, but none could tame the monster that he was. He even tried to force himself to be loyal to them the way he had been to Charles with disasterous results. Several of his lovers had met their deaths at his fangs. It would seem it had taken too long for him to reign in the darkness of what he was. Too late for Charles. Too late for the people he killed. He turned his head slightly, listening to the rain falling around him. There was a familiar presence there that knew him all too well. "It never does get easier." He said flatly. Finally crimson tears that had welled up in his eyes were allowed to fall.
