Disclaimer: Hellsing isn't mine, I just play in their playground from time to time...  call it trespassing, but I love that world.
Song and Lyrics:
"Let me Break"  -  Emigrate - Richard Kruspe

Alucard had made his choice, to a degree.   He had watched his thief break before his eyes to become something darker.  Something more like himself.  The smiling thief that had so freely moved around the Hellsing manor was a thing of the past.  Mina saw it happen,  saw the change in her great grandson, and in the end had no one to blame but herself.  In her greed she had created a creature that was a perfecting mirror of the No Life King himself before they knew him.  She had wanted the Count back no matter who it hurt to do it.  Even if that hurt was inflicted upon family.

I would live for you and break my heart in two.
I would give for you like only fools would do.
I would hear you out and tell you all I could.
I would take your doubts and show you what I should...

For all her efforts, she seemed unable to cheer up the No Life King.  Then again, he had just lost the light in his darkness.  It was true that Eric was still a part of Hellsing.  He was still there.  He had kept his promise... at least one of them had.  As he and Mina walked through the great halls of Hellsing,  Eric was visible reaching for a book on a shelf before flipping through a few pages.   He was looking for something and seemed to pay no mind that either of them had even entered the same room he was in.  The rejection stung the No Life King, but not so much as the look on Eric's face when he put the book back and turned around.   There was nothing there.  No emotion at all.

Let me Break
Let me Break you down.
For your Sake.
I will break you down.

"Come on Alucard..."  Mina tugged on his arm to distract the great vampire to lead him outside, away from the thief who headed upstairs.   He was probably busy working on something for Integra.  The elder vampire reluctantly moved to follow her as Eric walked away from the two of them.  Like two pieces of a checker board, one clad in red, one clad in black, they moved instead away from each other.  No conquering this day.

I would try for you, try to walk you through
I would fight for you, to prove that I am true

More time passed between them.  Time does seem to heal wounds, or at least scab them over to where they aren't as painful.  When Alucard finally proposed to Mina it was a joyous time around the Manor for all but one, and he was no where to be seen.   The door on their bond had been slammed shut and boarded.  He didn't want people following him, finding him, or looking for him.   On this day he chose to be completely alone in his refuge that he had built in the years he spent at Hellsing.   Such an accomplished thief, even to commend-ere space without anyones knowledge.

Let me Break
Let me Break you down.
For your Sake.
I will break you down.

It was in his self imposed tomb that he broke down.  No one could see him.  No one could hear him.  It was how he wanted it to be.

Break...   Break Down
Break...   Break Down

When the day for the wedding came he was Alucard's best man.  He carried the ring.  A false smile was lit on his visage.  Well... perhaps it wasn't entirely false.  The No Life King was happy.  So all he could do was to be happy for him.   He had both his Harkers under one roof, so that could at least ease his mind.   When the time came, he held the ring up to Alucard,  that boarded door coming open only briefly as he whispered to Alucard's mind.  "I'm happy for you."   It was genuine.  If Alucard was happy, then that was enough.

I would choose for you, alleviate your pain
I would lose for you, again and again
Let me Break....   For your Sake.

Once the wedding was over, Eric disappeared.   That door was shut once more.  He walked into Integra's office and simply kneeled there awaiting her return.  When she walked into her office to see the vampire there, looking like a smaller version of Alucard, she knew that something was horribly, horribly wrong.

Let me Break
Let me Break you down.
For your Sake.
I will break you down.

As she got closer she saw the silver letter opener gleaming just past his long black leather trenchcoat.  "Eric no..."    There was no answer from him as she turned on the light and saw the puddle of blood that he was kneeling in.

Let me Break
Let me Break you down.
For your Sake.
I will break you down.

She knelt before him, lifting his head up.  His eyes were closed and he had an oddly peaceful look on his face.  Yet his throat had been gashed open by the burning silver before he had plunged the knife straight into his heart.   He kept his promise.  He wouldn't run.   He wouldn't die.   Encircled tightly in his left hand, not a drop of blood on it, was the glove that Alucard had given him years before.  Integra called to Walter to make sure that Alucard did not see this.  Instead Eric would be sealed in his room like the No Life King had once been.   He was there... like a doll on a shelf, until the time came where he was needed.

Break...   Break Down
Break...   Break Down
